Conversation with Student

    Another area in which I document student's growth is their spoken abilities. In order to do so, I tape record conversations with the students approximately 3-4 times per year. At each session, I ask the child the same questions. It is amazing how much more information you are receiving by the 2-3 session.

November 2001

Teacher- What is your name?

Student- Tommy

Teacher- Tommy, do you know your last name?

Student- shrugs shoulders

Teacher- When is your birthday Tommy?

Student- shrugs shoulders

Teacher- How old are you Tommy?

Student- Eight

Teacher- What is your favourite colour?

Student- wewwow (yellow)

Teacher- What do you like to do at school?

Student- Play

Teacher- Where do you like to play?

Student- Play centres.

Teacher- Who do you like to play with?

Student- Erick and Ricio (Mauricio).

 

February 2002

Teacher- What is your name?

Student- Tommy, Tommy ______. ______ come after Tommy. Tommy Turtle start with T.

Teacher- When is your birthday Tommy?

Student- After Christmas. January 9. It winter time. It very cold outside.

Teacher- How old are you Tommy?

Student- I five. I five years old.

Teacher- What is your favourite colour?

Student- Yewwow, blue, green, red, brown, black. I like all colour, all colours like rainbow.

Teacher- What do you like to do at school?

Student- I play centres. I like centres.

Teacher- Where do you like to play?

Student- I like puzzles. I like games. I like blocks. I like all centres. I play centres.

Teacher- Who do you like to play with?

Student- Erick, Mauricio, Kellie, Liam, Vivia, Vivian. I yove (love) Vivian. I no play with _____, she put sand in my eye. I say "No, don't put sand in my eye, I no like that"..
